Unlike a conventional classroom-based agricultural training centre, the Pilibhit facility will include a demonstration farm where farmers can see improved cultivation practices being applied under field conditions.
Unlike highly polished white rice, traditional Palakkadan Matta retains much of its coloured outer layer and is commonly parboiled before milling. The resulting rice has a firm texture, substantial grain and distinctive taste that has made it a staple of Kerala meals as well as an ingredient in traditional snacks and rice preparations.
The fruit is closely associated with the Junagadh–Gir region of Saurashtra, particularly the orchards around Talala and the wider landscape adjoining Gir. Its distinctive qualities eventually earned formal recognition through India’s Geographical Indications system. The Gir Kesar Mango received its GI registration certificate on 24 June 2011, making geographical origin an integral part of its protected identity.
Its reputation extends far beyond Maharashtra. Alphonso mangoes command premium prices in Indian cities, travel as prized seasonal gifts between families and are sought by buyers overseas for their intense fragrance, smooth flesh and distinctive balance between sweetness and acidity. Yet the qualities that created this reputation are closely connected with geography. This connection ultimately resulted in Alphonso receiving Geographical Indication registration on 3 October 2018, formally recognising an agricultural identity that had developed over centuries.
