The scale of that industrial base is becoming particularly important as the armed forces move from small experimental purchases towards much larger procurement programmes covering surveillance drones, logistics systems, loitering munitions, autonomous platforms, swarm technologies and counter-UAS systems.
Unlike traditional radios whose operating characteristics are largely determined by fixed hardware, a Software Defined Radio shifts many communication functions into software. Frequency management, waveforms, encryption, networking protocols and other functions can therefore be modified or upgraded without replacing the entire radio hardware.
Prostarm’s new facility is located at Reliance MET City in Jhajjar, Haryana, and will have an annual manufacturing capacity of 1.2 GWh. The company has positioned the plant as a forward-integration move that will give it greater control over manufacturing, product quality, supply chains and product development.
The company’s existing manufacturing facility is located at the Verna Industrial Estate in Goa. Hughes Precision currently operates an approximately 8,000-square-metre facility with integrated manufacturing, quality-control and testing infrastructure.
Mazagon Dock has also stated that Project 75(I) mandates approximately 60 per cent indigenisation. This requirement is intended to draw Indian companies into the submarine manufacturing ecosystem and progressively reduce dependence on imported equipment and systems.
The immediate programme centres on the B28, India’s first indigenous high-speed train platform. Its name reflects its 280 kmph design-speed category. The train is being developed through the Integral Coach Factory and BEML, with manufacturing taking place at BEML’s Bengaluru facility.
The assistance has been approved under the Government of India’s ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation Fund and will support the development of the e200X, a three-seat electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft intended for short-distance passenger transport, emergency medical services and other advanced air mobility applications.
These are not conventional warehouse forklifts. Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks are designed to move loads across difficult surfaces and operate in environments where standard industrial material-handling equipment would struggle.
The procurement has been placed under the Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, making the programme another significant transition of a DRDO-developed weapon from development into series acquisition for the armed forces.
India exported approximately $1.9 billion worth of PCBAs in FY2025-26, more than twenty times the level recorded a year earlier. Of this, around $1.5 billion went to China, compared with only approximately $36 million in FY2024-25.
