Armenian Military Delegation Visits Indian Air Force Station as India–Armenia Defence Ties Deepen

A senior delegation from the Armenian Armed Forces visited an Indian Air Force station under Western Air Command on September 10, 2026, marking another step in the steadily expanding defence relationship between India and Armenia.

The five-member Armenian delegation, led by Major General Alexander Tsakanyan, was given a guided tour of the station’s operational and maintenance facilities, providing the visitors with an opportunity to understand aspects of the Indian Air Force’s operational practices, technical support systems and maintenance infrastructure.

The Indian Air Force officially confirmed the visit, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen India–Armenia defence cooperation. According to the IAF, the engagement helped deepen military-to-military interaction while promoting mutual understanding, knowledge sharing and operational interoperability between the two armed forces.

The IAF did not publicly identify the air station visited by the Armenian delegation, stating only that it came under Western Air Command. The command is responsible for strategically important air operations across a large part of northern and western India.

The visit comes against the backdrop of rapidly expanding defence ties between New Delhi and Yerevan. Armenia has emerged in recent years as an important overseas customer for Indian defence equipment, with cooperation extending across artillery, air defence systems, rocket systems, ammunition and other military technologies.

Beyond equipment purchases, the two countries have increasingly sought to broaden their relationship through institutional military exchanges, training, senior-level visits and operational interaction. The latest Armenian visit to an IAF station reflects that shift from a largely buyer-supplier relationship towards wider military engagement.

The Indian Air Force said the visit reaffirmed the enduring defence ties between India and Armenia, while strengthening interaction between their armed forces.

As Armenia continues to diversify its defence partnerships and India expands its role as a defence exporter, such military exchanges are likely to become an increasingly important component of the bilateral relationship.
