ISRO Chairman Dr V Narayanan said the space agency is simultaneously advancing several major programmes, including Gaganyaan and the Bharatiya Antariksha Station. The approval of the first BAS module marks an important step toward creating a permanent Indian presence in low-Earth orbit and expanding the country’s role in human space exploration.
Ahmedabad-based PierSight is developing a different approach to this problem by combining Synthetic Aperture Radar, or SAR, with space-based ship-identification data in the same maritime intelligence architecture. The company is building a constellation intended to provide persistent, all-weather monitoring of maritime activity, allowing vessels, oil spills and other activity at sea to be detected through darkness and cloud cover and then correlated with AIS or its newer VDES evolution.
DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V. Kamat has directly linked the organisation’s quantum-sensing research to submarine detection. He explained that DRDO is working on magnetometers capable of detecting changes in magnetic fields at the picotesla level and said such sensors could eventually be carried aboard UAVs or aircraft. According to Kamat, the technology could potentially enable submarine detection at depths of around 100 to 200 metres. The figure should presently be treated as a projected capability rather than a publicly demonstrated operational detection range.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari carried out the Bhumi Pujan for the projects virtually from GRSE Bhavan in Kolkata on August 23. Three of the projects are being undertaken by GRSE at Raichak, Shalimar and Kidderpore, while YIL is establishing two major forging facilities at its Metal and Steel Factory at Ishapore. EndureAir began publicly teasing VAHAK-6 on August 21, 2026, before confirming that the new system was on its way. Chennai-based Big Bang Boom Solutions, or BBBS, has emerged as one of the Indian companies developing systems for this new category of warfare. Its principal counter-UAS programme, Vajra Sentinel, has been conceived not as a single jammer or radar but as an integrated defensive architecture that combines passive radio-frequency detection, radar surveillance, electro-optical and infrared tracking, artificial-intelligence-assisted classification, electronic countermeasures, command-and-control software and, where required, hard-kill effectors.
SATEEK has been designed to transform legacy fire-control architecture into a more modern digital system capable of performing ballistic computations rapidly while interfacing with the tank’s sensors and fire-control equipment. DIASPRO says the system uses an advanced processing architecture intended to improve firing accuracy, particularly while the tank is moving.
