India’s Private Space Sector Enters Scale-Up Phase as Startups Target Monthly Launches, Orbital Servicing and Space Pharma

The ambitions emerged from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with founders and chief executives of 20 Indian space startups. The meeting took place on August 21, 2026, while a detailed transcript of the interaction was released on August 23 as India marked National Space Day. Participating companies included Skyroot Aerospace, Agnikul Cosmos, Pixxel, Dhruva Space, Bellatrix Aerospace, Digantara, Manastu Space, OrbitAID Aerospace and several other emerging space companies.

Indian Startup Othisis Test-Fires 3D-Printed Methalox Engine for Reusable Rocket Programme

The engine delivered a reported 5 kN of thrust and a total impulse of 100 kN·s during the successful test. Othisis says it designed and built the propulsion system for its reusable launch-vehicle programme and plans to place the engine aboard a vehicle demonstrator later in 2026. The achievement remains a ground-based hot-fire test rather than a flight demonstration, but it moves the startup closer to testing reusable rocket operations.

Global SAR Leader ICEYE Chooses India for Local Satellite Manufacturing as Aatmanirbhar Space Ecosystem Expands

The company announced the establishment of its Indian entity on August 24, 2026, describing India as one of the world’s most important defence and space markets. ICEYE India will initially focus on supporting Indian defence and intelligence users with space-based intelligence capabilities while progressively developing a domestic industrial ecosystem involving Indian engineers, suppliers and technology companies.

DRDO Advances 300-Km Extended Long-Range Guided Rocket for Indigenous Deep-Strike Capability

Development responsibility for the longer-range Pinaka family centres on DRDO’s Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), supported by laboratories specialising in propulsion, guidance and missile electronics. The broader programme brings together ARDE, the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Research and Development Laboratory and Research Centre Imarat, creating an almost entirely Indian development chain for the weapon.

BEL and Esri India Join Forces to Expand GeoAI and Location Intelligence for Defence

BEL and Esri India Technologies signed a Memorandum of Understanding on August 3, 2026, to jointly pursue opportunities involving Geographic Information Systems (GIS), location intelligence and GeoAI. A major focus of the agreement is supporting rapid or “surge” deployment of geospatial solutions for BEL and India’s defence services when operational requirements demand faster availability.

DRDO Develops Advanced Low-Frequency Vibration Isolation Technology to Make Indian Warships and Submarines Quieter

The latest research focuses on a particularly difficult part of the vibration spectrum: low-frequency vibration. Conventional rubber isolation systems can perform effectively once vibration frequencies rise sufficiently above the natural resonance of the mounting system, but isolating machinery operating at lower frequencies presents a much greater engineering challenge.
