According to the report, Manturov is scheduled to hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and is also expected to meet National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. His role is especially significant because he co-chairs the annual India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation, one of the key institutional mechanisms overseeing bilateral cooperation.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the shipment reflects India’s continuing role as a dependable development partner and a credible Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief actor for countries of the Global South. The official statement, conveyed by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on social media, framed the assistance as part of India’s broader commitment to responsive and need-based international support.

In his message, Modi said he was “deeply shocked and saddened” by the death of Santokhi, whom he described as a friend. He said Santokhi’s commitment to Suriname and his efforts to deepen bilateral relations were evident in their meetings. Modi also remembered Santokhi’s affection for Indian culture, noting that he had won admiration for taking his oath of office in Sanskrit.

The latest round of consultations provided an opportunity for both countries to comprehensively review cooperation in areas such as trade and economic relations, defence, science and technology, fintech, agriculture, culture, and broader people-to-people exchanges.
