Kalyani M4 – The Mobile Armour To Protect Our Soldiers

LUCKNOW: The Indian defence forces may get a powerful ‘armour’ to protect their personnel from any Pulwama-type terror attacks in the future.

This would be made possible with the introduction of indigenous armoured protected fighting vehicle that can provide side blast protection against 50kg of TNT explosives. A prototype of the vehicle, named ‘Kalyani M4’ and currently in trial stage, will be on display at the Defence Expo in Vrindavan Yojana.

The need for such vehicles for the defence personnel was felt after a suicide bomber blew up a convoy of Central Paramilitary Reserve Force (CRPF) in Pulwama of Jammu and Kashmir in February 2019, killing 40 soldiers, said Baba Kalyani, the chairman of Bharat Forge Limited — the maker of this unique and indigenous vehicle in the country. Addressing a press conference in Lucknow on the eve of Defence Expo, Kalyani said their focus is now on manufacturing lighter products to facilitate easy movement of troops. Keeping this goal in mind, Bharat Forge is producing various lighter products, including a super light artillery gun, he added.
Hailing the upcoming defence corridor in Uttar Pradesh, Baba Kalyani stressed on increased participation of private sector defence manufacturing companies in the project. Bharat Forge has signed an MoU with UP government for setting up an ammunition factory in the state under the defence corridor project. The company has also scouted some locations in Jhansi to set up the factory.
Col(retd) Rajinder Singh Bhatia, CEO of Bharat Forge, said one of the greatest challenges in combating terror is ensuring the safety of the security personnel and ‘Kalyani M4’ would be of immense importance in such situations
