These submarines are being constructed at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai, under collaboration with M/s Naval Group, France. Christened ‘Vela’, the submarine was launched on 06 May 19, and has completed all major harbour and sea trials including weapon and sensor trials despite COVID restrictions. Three of these submarines are already in commission with the Indian Navy.
As a tangible demonstration of the growing Indo–Israeli technological cooperation, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Directorate of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D), Ministry of Defence, Israel have entered into a Bilateral Innovation Agreement (BIA) to promote innovation and accelerated R&D in startups and MSMEs of both countries for the development of dual use technologies. The agreement was signed between and Secretary, Department of Defence, R&D & Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy and Head of DDR&D, Israel BG (Retd) Dr Daniel Gold in New Delhi on November 09, 2021.
Initially, the Tumakuru helicopter facility will have the capacity to produce 30 helicopters annually. Experts point out that together HAL’s Tumakuru and Bengaluru helicopter facilities will be able to roll out 100 LUHs every year. LUH’s test flights will also be carried out from HAL’s Tumakuru facility. Interestingly, the role of the Tumakuru helicopter facility assumed further significance after the ministry of defence approved the procurement of 12 LUHs from HAL (six each for the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force).
The Indian Army has sought to equip itself with a modern low level lightweight radar (LLLWR) for threat detection and response along the China border where surveillance is restricted due to mountainous terrain, officials said on Monday. The terrain provides easy ingress to enemy aircraft, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) flying at low altitudes, they said.

Navy Chiefs of 12 countries from the Indian Ocean Region will participate in the Indian Navy’s three-day-long maritime conclave starting on Sunday in Goa, according to an official statement. This will be the third edition of the Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC-21).
