The Indian government, on Tuesday, donated a consignment of ammunition to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi formally accepted the donation from Indian Ambassador to Maldives Sunjay Sudhir.
Several senior members of MNDF also participated in the handover ceremony held aboard ICGS Samarth, the Indian Coast Guard’s largest offshore patrol vessel.
The Defence Minister expressed gratitude to India for its contributions to Maldives’ national safety.
The Indian government granted USD 1 million for the establishment of MNDF’s training centre on Maafilaafushi in Lhaviyani Atoll.
Indian Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Bipin Rawat also recently undertook an official trip to Maldives, during which he met President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as well as top MNDF officials.
