Early next month, the Income Tax Department is expected to launch a new e-filing web portal for taxpayers, to file routine ITRs and other tax-related tasks, according to officials.
Between June 1 and 6, 2021, the present online site will be unavailable for six days.
Officials said the new portal would be built more user-friendly.
From June 7,2021, the transition from the previous portal — www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in — to the new –www.incometaxgov.in — will be operational.
The order from the department said, “To prepare for this launch, the existing portal at www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in would not be available for a period of six days from (June 1 – 6, 2021), to both the Income Tax Department officers and taxpayers.”
To allow taxpayers time to adjust to the new system, all officials may be asked to schedule any hearings or compliances only from June 10 forward.
The order said that any work arranged between the taxpayer and the department’s assessing officer may be postponed or deferred.
Taxpayers utilise the e-filing platform to file their individual or corporate income tax returns (ITRs), as well as to make grievances, request refunds, and complete other tasks with the IRS.
It is used by the IRS to send notices, collect replies from taxpayers, react to their questions, and transmit final orders such as assessments, appeals, exemptions, and penalties.
