The prestigious decoration was presented by Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 30 August 2026 during Prime Minister Modi’s State Visit to the Central Asian country. The honour comes at a significant moment in bilateral relations, with India and Uzbekistan also elevating their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit.
The announcement came during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s State Visit to Uzbekistan, with the two countries concluding a broad package of agreements covering critical minerals, economic and financial cooperation, higher education, Ayurveda, tourism, cultural heritage, archives, environmental protection and diplomatic training.
The progress was confirmed by the Government of India on 29 August 2026, following the fourth meeting of the India–Argentina Joint Trade Committee, held in Buenos Aires on 24 August. The government described the Catamarca venture as the first lithium mining initiative undertaken by an Indian company in Argentina and said opportunities for further engagement are now being explored in the Argentine provinces of Salta and Jujuy.
The discussions took place during the fourth India-Denmark Joint Working Group meeting in Copenhagen on 28 August 2026, involving India’s Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO).
The MoU was signed on 28 August 2026 during GCAI’s event, “India-Singapore Legal Bridge: Enabling Growth, Investment and Effective Dispute Resolution in a Changing Global Economy,” held on the sidelines of Singapore Convention Week.
The renewed push came during the Fourth India–Argentina Joint Trade Committee meeting, held at Palacio San Martín in Buenos Aires on 24 August 2026. The meeting reviewed progress since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Argentina in 2025 and sought to convert the growing political relationship between the two countries into deeper trade, investment and industrial cooperation.
Reports emerging on 28 August 2026 indicate that work has begun on mounting the PRABAL system on the protected Armado platform. If confirmed, the configuration would represent another important step in the Army’s rapidly expanding effort to develop mobile defences against drones and loitering munitions.
The visit begins with a State Visit to Tashkent on 29–30 August, where Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, before travelling to Bishkek to participate in the 26th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation on 31 August and 1 September.
The meeting was confirmed on 27 August 2026 by Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) Sibi George during a briefing ahead of the Prime Minister’s forthcoming visits to Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. Modi will travel to Uzbekistan on 29–30 August before proceeding to Bishkek, where he will participate in the 26th SCO Summit from 31 August to 1 September.
The JDC has been established to operationalise the Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024, when bilateral relations were elevated to a Strategic Partnership.
