The 32nd edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy is being conducted from 12 – 14 November 2021. Indian Naval Ship (INS) Karmuk, an indigenously built Missile Corvette and His Majesty’s Thailand Ship (HTMS) Tayanchon, a Khamrosin Class Anti-submarine Patrol Craft, along with Maritime Patrol Aircraft from both navies are participating in the CORPAT.
The delivery of 24 helicopters will be completed in five years from the time the deal was concluded. The helicopters will be modified with a variety of “India-unique” equipment and weapons. The induction of these fourth-generation MH-60Rs is expected to further enhance the Indian Navy’s three-dimensional capabilities.
An Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent will be participating in the biennial Dubai Air Show to be held at the Al Maktoum International Airport from November 14 to 18. The IAF has been invited by the Government of UAE to participate with the Sarang and Suryakiran Aerobatics Teams.
Security chiefs of India, Russia, Iran and five Central Asian countries on Wednesday deliberated here on the way forward in Afghanistan on how to tackle the terrorist threats emanating from that country and to help the Afghan people tide over the huge humanitarian crisis, as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval said that the developments in Afghanistan have important implications not only for the people of that country but also for its neighbours and the region.
“The Indian Navy has already proven the capability to carry out a rescue operation using the DSRV for submarines operated by the Navy. The purpose of this visit by the foreign delegation is to show the other submarine operating nations who do not have the rescue system,” said Captain Koushik Hota, officer-in-charge of the submarine rescue unit (West).
The 11thDefence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) Group meeting between India and the United States (US) was held virtually on November 09, 2021. The meeting was co-chaired by Secretary (Defence Production) Shri Raj Kumar from Ministry of Defence, Government of India and PTDO (Performing the Duties of) Under Secretary of Defence for Acquisition and Sustainment from US Department of DefenceMr Gregory Kausner.
This MoU will facilitate exchange of knowledge and collaboration in the fields emerging technologies for development of GIS and IT based Enterprise Resource Planning Software, Training Content, Telecasting of Audio-Visual Content, Research and Knowledge Partnership, Technical Support and Upgradation for Resources Developed under a holistic partnership for projects which have the prior approval of Army Management Studies Board (AMSB) or approved on case-to-case basis.
These submarines are being constructed at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai, under collaboration with M/s Naval Group, France. Christened ‘Vela’, the submarine was launched on 06 May 19, and has completed all major harbour and sea trials including weapon and sensor trials despite COVID restrictions. Three of these submarines are already in commission with the Indian Navy.
As a tangible demonstration of the growing Indo–Israeli technological cooperation, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Directorate of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D), Ministry of Defence, Israel have entered into a Bilateral Innovation Agreement (BIA) to promote innovation and accelerated R&D in startups and MSMEs of both countries for the development of dual use technologies. The agreement was signed between and Secretary, Department of Defence, R&D & Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy and Head of DDR&D, Israel BG (Retd) Dr Daniel Gold in New Delhi on November 09, 2021.
Initially, the Tumakuru helicopter facility will have the capacity to produce 30 helicopters annually. Experts point out that together HAL’s Tumakuru and Bengaluru helicopter facilities will be able to roll out 100 LUHs every year. LUH’s test flights will also be carried out from HAL’s Tumakuru facility. Interestingly, the role of the Tumakuru helicopter facility assumed further significance after the ministry of defence approved the procurement of 12 LUHs from HAL (six each for the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force).
