The Vadinar turnaround began after the refinery was taken offline on 9 April 2026 for planned maintenance. Earlier updates indicated that operations were expected to resume around mid-May, and the company has now announced completion of the scheduled exercise. This places the project within a tightly managed maintenance window, important for a facility of this size because even a short disruption at a 400,000 bpd refinery can influence fuel logistics, supply planning and market balance.

The model village initiative grew from India’s long-running housing support in Sri Lanka. In 2017, India and Sri Lanka signed an agreement for 1,200 houses across 50 model villages with Indian grant assistance of SLR 600 million. The programme targeted low-income families and followed an owner-driven construction model, where beneficiaries received support in stages linked to the progress of house construction.

E85 is important because it moves India beyond the earlier stage of ethanol blending. The country has already made strong progress with E20 petrol, where 20 percent ethanol is blended with petrol. E85 takes that transition much further by making ethanol the dominant part of the fuel mix. This gives India a stronger pathway toward cleaner combustion, greater fuel diversification and deeper use of farm-linked energy resources.

The January–March quarter added further strength to the annual picture, with GDP expanding 7.8 percent. This final-quarter performance showed that domestic economic activity remained firm across major sectors. Investment activity, services, construction, manufacturing and consumption together helped the economy finish the year on a stronger note.
