Govt Electrifies 19 Villages In Siachen With Renewable Power, Takes Ladakh Closer To Carbon-Neutrality Goal

Adani Green Becomes India’s First Renewable Energy Company to Cross 20 GW Capacity

The achievement comes nearly a decade after AGEL commissioned its first renewable energy project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, in 2016. During FY26, the company added 5,051 MW of renewable energy capacity, marking one of the largest annual additions by any renewable energy company outside China.

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has become the first renewable energy company in India to surpass 20 GW of operational capacity, reaching the milestone through greenfield project development.

The company’s renewable energy portfolio now generates more than 52 billion units of clean electricity annually, contributing nearly 3% of India’s total electricity consumption. According to the company, this output is sufficient to power a city the size of New York for a year or meet the combined annual electricity demand of Mumbai and New Delhi.

The achievement comes nearly a decade after AGEL commissioned its first renewable energy project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, in 2016. During FY26, the company added 5,051 MW of renewable energy capacity, marking one of the largest annual additions by any renewable energy company outside China.

AGEL’s current operational portfolio includes approximately 14.2 GW of solar power, 2.7 GW of wind energy, and 3.3 GW of hybrid wind-solar projects. The company has also deployed 3.55 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), making it one of the largest battery storage installations outside China.

Looking ahead, AGEL plans to add 10 GWh of battery storage capacity in FY27 and expand this to 50 GWh over the next five years. The company aims to achieve 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, strengthening its role in India’s clean energy transition and supporting the country’s long-term energy security goals.
