NEW DELHI: Railway minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday around 6,000 railway stations will be equipped with Wi-Fi over the next two to three months as part of the government’s plan to connect people in the far-fetched areas of India.
“More than 5,000 stations have Wi-Fi facility. In the next two to three months, 6,500 stations will have Wi-Fi connectivity and with that the economically weak, children and women will be connected with the rest of the world,” Goyal said.
Goyal, who is also the trade and commerce minister, said the national transporter is installing CCTV cameras at railway stations to create a safe environment for passengers.
“The way Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisaged, train stations should become a hub of economic activity,” Goyal said as he, along with home minister Amit Shah flagged off the second Vande Bharat Express from New Delhi to Katra.
Shah said the Vande Bharat trainset has realised the ‘Make in India’ dream, and will herald development in Jammu & Kashmir.
