Sri Lanka’s parliament will be dissolved tonight, state television Rupavahini said citing government sources.
The gazette dissolving parliament has been sent to the government printer for publication, the broadcast said.
“The much awaited gazette notification dissolving parliament has been signed by His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena and has been sent to the government press,” the anouncer said.
Earlier in the day the Department of Government Printing was taken under the Defence Ministry by the powers of the President, the report said.
Sri Lanka was plunged into a political crisis two week ago after President Maithripala Sirisena appointed Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister in a surprise move.
