Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will distribute more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly appointed youth in various Government departments and organisations on 23 May 2026 through video conferencing. The event will be held as part of the 19th Rozgar Mela, a nationwide employment initiative aimed at strengthening recruitment into government service and supporting India’s larger employment generation agenda.
The Prime Minister will also address the newly appointed candidates during the programme, which is scheduled for 11 AM. The latest edition of the Rozgar Mela continues the government’s effort to provide young Indians with formal opportunities in public service across different sectors of administration, governance, security, finance, education, health and infrastructure.
Since its launch, the Rozgar Mela has become one of the major platforms through which the Government of India has accelerated the distribution of appointment letters to selected candidates. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, around 12 lakh recruitment letters have already been issued through the previous 18 Rozgar Melas organised across the country.
The 19th Rozgar Mela will be held at 47 locations across India, reflecting the programme’s national scale. Candidates selected from different parts of the country will join various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India, including the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services, Department of Higher Education, and other government organisations.
The significance of the Rozgar Mela lies not only in the number of appointment letters distributed, but also in the message it sends about public employment, administrative capacity and youth participation in nation-building. Government jobs continue to play an important role in India’s employment landscape because they offer stability, structured career growth and an opportunity to work directly in public service. For many young candidates, receiving an appointment letter through such a national platform represents the beginning of a long-term professional journey within the public system.
The recruitment drive also comes at a time when India is expanding governance delivery across sectors. Railways, healthcare, financial services, higher education, internal security and public administration all require trained personnel to support the country’s growing developmental needs. By inducting new employees into different Ministries and Departments, the government is also strengthening the human-resource base required to implement schemes, deliver services and improve administrative efficiency.
The Rozgar Mela has also acquired symbolic importance. It presents employment generation as a national priority and links youth recruitment with the broader vision of a developed India. Each edition of the programme brings together newly selected candidates from multiple regions, backgrounds and departments, giving the exercise a pan-India character. It also underlines the idea that public service is not limited to one sector alone, but spread across many areas that directly affect citizens’ lives.
For the newly appointed youth, the programme offers both recognition and responsibility. Their roles may differ — from railway operations and healthcare support to financial administration, higher education services and internal security functions — but each appointment contributes to the functioning of the Indian state. As India’s population, economy and public service needs continue to expand, such recruitment efforts can help bring fresh energy into government institutions.
The 19th Rozgar Mela therefore marks another step in the government’s continuing employment-focused outreach. With over 51,000 appointment letters to be distributed in this round and around 12 lakh letters already issued through earlier editions, the initiative has become a major recurring platform for formal recruitment into government service.
In a larger sense, the programme reflects the connection between employment, governance and national development. A stronger public workforce can improve service delivery, support implementation of government schemes and provide young citizens with meaningful roles in India’s institutional framework. The latest Rozgar Mela reinforces that direction by placing youth employment at the centre of public policy communication.
