More than $1 trillion in sovereign and institutional capital is expected to be represented in New Delhi as global investors gather for the inaugural iBRICS Capital and Deal-Flow Summit alongside the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit being hosted by India on September 12–13.
The investment gathering is being convened by the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI) at The Oberoi in New Delhi. SWFI describes iBRICS as a private, invitation-only investment forum timed to coincide with the BRICS Leaders’ Summit, rather than an official event organised by the Government of India or the BRICS Chairship. The main BRICS Leaders’ Summit will take place separately at Bharat Mandapam.
The iBRICS gathering is designed to bring together sovereign wealth funds, public investment institutions, development banks, pension funds, institutional asset managers, family offices, state-owned enterprises, major industrial groups and financial institutions from BRICS member and partner economies. SWFI says the capital represented by participants is around the $1-trillion mark.
According to the organiser’s programme, roughly 250 guests are expected in the principal summit room. The two-day event will also include dedicated 50-seat roundtables for digital assets and sovereign investment, together with meetings intended to connect institutions controlling long-term capital with governments, companies and projects seeking investment.
A major theme will be the changing architecture of cross-border finance. Sessions will examine trade and settlement beyond traditional dollar-based channels, energy security, commerce between BRICS economies, digital transformation and the growing role of the grouping in the international economic order.
Digital financial infrastructure will receive particular attention. A BRICS Digital Asset Round Table scheduled for September 12 will bring together principals working across sovereign payment systems, liquidity, custody, tokenised assets and regulated digital-asset markets. The wider programme will also examine how new settlement infrastructure could support commerce and investment between BRICS economies.
Energy and infrastructure are another major focus. Investors will discuss where sovereign and strategic capital could be deployed as emerging economies balance growing energy demand, industrialisation and the longer-term transition toward cleaner energy systems. Trade corridors, critical minerals and digital infrastructure are also expected to feature prominently in investment discussions.
The private investment gathering will take place against the backdrop of India’s fourth BRICS Chairship. India is hosting the official 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12–13 under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The Government of India has described its approach to the chairship as people-centric and rooted in the principle of “Humanity First.”
More than 350 BRICS meetings and high-level engagements have been conducted across over 25 Indian cities during the chairship, covering the grouping’s political and security, economic and financial, and people-to-people pillars. The New Delhi Leaders’ Summit will provide the political centrepiece of that process, while parallel business and investment gatherings such as iBRICS aim to translate the concentration of governments, institutions and capital in the city into commercial partnerships and investment opportunities.
The convergence of the two events could make New Delhi one of the most significant centres of sovereign-capital diplomacy in September, bringing BRICS political leadership together with investors controlling substantial pools of long-term global capital.
