Syrma SGS and Italy’s Elemaster Open Advanced Electronics Manufacturing Hub in Bengaluru

Indian electronics manufacturer Syrma SGS Technology and Italy’s Elemaster Group have inaugurated a new high-reliability electronics manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, strengthening India’s position in advanced electronics production for critical industrial applications. The plant was officially inaugurated on September 2, 2026, and Elemaster announced the development on September 3.

Located in the Bommasandra Industrial Area, the new facility has an initial footprint of about 20,000 square feet and is equipped with Surface Mount Technology, Through-Hole Technology and box-build assembly lines. It has been designed to manufacture electronics for sectors where product reliability, process control and stringent quality standards are particularly important.

Focus on High-Reliability Electronics

The facility will serve customers across railways and transportation, industrial electronics, energy and medical electronics. It is also intended to support global original equipment manufacturers seeking high-quality electronics manufacturing capabilities in India.

High-reliability electronics are used in environments where equipment must continue operating safely and consistently despite vibration, temperature variation, electrical stress or long service periods. This makes manufacturing quality and testing particularly important in railway systems, industrial machinery, healthcare equipment and energy infrastructure.

The Bengaluru plant brings several stages of electronics assembly under one roof. Its SMT capability supports automated placement of electronic components onto printed circuit boards, while THT assembly is used for components requiring stronger mechanical connections. Box-build capability allows the joint venture to move beyond circuit-board assembly toward integrated electronic products and subsystems.

Combining Indian Scale With Italian Engineering

The joint venture combines the complementary strengths of the two companies. Syrma SGS contributes its established Indian manufacturing base, supply-chain network and large-scale production capabilities, while Elemaster brings engineering expertise, electronic design experience and long-standing relationships with European and global OEMs.

Syrma SGS Executive Chairman Sandeep Tandon said the partnership is intended to help build India into a globally competitive hub for high-reliability electronics manufacturing. The company sees an opportunity for India to move beyond production scale and develop deeper capabilities in areas where engineering quality and reliability are critical.

Elemaster Chief Executive Valentina Cogliati similarly described India as an increasingly important market for both the Italian group and its international customers. The Bengaluru facility provides Elemaster with a manufacturing base through which its engineering and technology capabilities can be combined with Syrma SGS’s scale in India.

Partnership Was Formed in 2025

Syrma SGS and Elemaster announced their strategic joint venture in September 2025. The venture operates through Syrma SGS Elemaster Private Limited and was created specifically to serve high-reliability electronics markets from India. The partners had identified Bommasandra as the location for the 20,000-square-foot manufacturing facility from the beginning of the collaboration.

The inauguration therefore marks the transition of the partnership from planning to operational manufacturing. Within roughly a year of announcing the joint venture, the companies have established a dedicated production platform capable of serving both Indian customers and international OEMs.

India–Italy Industrial Cooperation Expands

The inauguration was attended by Dr Giandomenico Milano, Consul General of Italy in Bengaluru, along with senior representatives of Syrma SGS, Elemaster and customer organisations. Elemaster said the project reflects the growing importance of industrial and technology cooperation between India and Italy.

The partnership is particularly relevant as multinational electronics companies diversify their manufacturing footprints and seek additional production bases outside traditional supply chains. India’s large engineering workforce, expanding electronics ecosystem and growing domestic demand are encouraging companies to establish more sophisticated manufacturing operations within the country.

Moving Beyond Basic Electronics Assembly

The Bengaluru plant also reflects the wider evolution of India’s electronics manufacturing sector. Much of the early expansion in domestic electronics production centred on high-volume consumer devices and assembly. Investments are now increasingly moving toward higher-value segments requiring specialised engineering, quality assurance and long product lifecycles.

Railway electronics, medical systems, industrial equipment and energy infrastructure fall into this category because failure can carry significant operational or safety consequences. Building dedicated capacity for these applications can help Indian manufacturers move further up the electronics value chain.

The joint venture intends to create an integrated platform combining engineering and manufacturing rather than functioning only as an assembly operation. Elemaster said the new plant is expected to support the development of globally competitive, Made-in-India electronics for critical end markets.

Another Step for Make in India

For India, the significance of the facility lies in the type of manufacturing capability being created. The project brings together foreign engineering expertise and established Indian production capacity while targeting both domestic demand and exports.

Syrma SGS itself has described the partnership as supporting the broader Make in India initiative and strengthening India’s position as a trusted location for advanced technology manufacturing.

With the Bommasandra facility now operational, Syrma SGS and Elemaster have created a new Indian manufacturing base for electronics used in railways, industrial systems, energy and healthcare. The project adds another layer to Bengaluru’s technology ecosystem while demonstrating how India’s electronics manufacturing sector is gradually expanding from high-volume assembly into more specialised and reliability-critical applications.
