India has welcomed a key political and strategic development in Vietnam, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulating General Phan Van Giang on his appointment as Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister while he continues to serve as Minister of National Defence. The message underlined the importance New Delhi attaches to its defence relationship with Hanoi, one of India’s most significant strategic partners in Southeast Asia.
According to News On AIR, Rajnath Singh said in a social media post that India looks forward to further strengthening its long-standing defence ties with Vietnam. He also highlighted deeper cooperation in security, military exchanges and defence industry collaboration under General Giang’s continued leadership.
The statement carries significance beyond diplomacy alone. India and Vietnam have steadily expanded cooperation across defence training, maritime security, strategic dialogue and capacity-building, and the latest exchange suggests that both sides intend to maintain that momentum at a time of growing geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific. That broader reading is an inference based on the minister’s emphasis on stronger defence ties and deeper cooperation.
Rajnath Singh also expressed confidence that the India-Vietnam partnership will continue to grow from strength to strength in the years ahead. The message reflects the steady political trust that has increasingly shaped bilateral ties, especially in the defence and security sphere.
