India and Myanmar have reviewed bilateral security cooperation during the 23rd National Level Meeting held in New Delhi. The two-day meeting focused on strengthening coordination between the two countries on border security, transnational crime and regional connectivity.
Both sides discussed cooperation against terrorism, insurgency, narcotics trafficking, arms smuggling, human trafficking, wildlife trafficking, cybercrime and organised crime. They agreed to improve intelligence sharing, operational coordination and capacity-building initiatives to deal with shared security challenges.
The meeting also reviewed the security situation along the India-Myanmar border. Both countries reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability and security in the border areas. They also stressed that sovereign territory should not be used for activities that harm the security interests of the other side.
Myanmar assured India that its territory would not be allowed to be used against India’s security interests. This assurance is important because the India-Myanmar border has direct relevance to security in India’s northeastern states.
The two sides also discussed the need to work closely for the completion of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project and the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway. These projects are important for regional connectivity, trade and India’s Act East policy.
India underlined that Myanmar holds an important place in its Neighbourhood First, Act East and MAHASAGAR policies. The Indian delegation was led by Home Secretary Govind Mohan, while Myanmar’s delegation was led by Deputy Minister Major General Min Thu.
The meeting reflects India’s practical approach toward Myanmar, combining security cooperation, border stability, connectivity and regional engagement.
