India’s eligible adult population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by over 50%, according to Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare of India. As per officials from the Union Health Ministry, more than 84.8% of India’s adult population have taken the first dose.
The total COVID-19 doses given in India has crossed 127.61 crore due to the administration of 1,04,18,707 vaccine doses within 24 hours, according to a provisional report. The total doses have been administered through 1,32,44,514 sessions, according to the Ministry.
India’s vaccination drive began on January 16, 2021 with health care workers (HCWs) in the first phase, followed by the vaccination of front line workers (FLWs) from February 2, 2021. This was followed by vaccination of people over 60 years of age and those aged 45 years of age and above with specified co-morbid conditions from March 1, 2021. Vaccination for people above 45 years of age began from April 1, 2021 followed by everyone above 18 years of age to be vaccinated from May 1, 2021
