Portal to Showcase Indian Culture Launched – indianculture.gov.in

Created by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay over the last three years, the portal — www.indianculture.gov.in — is a digital resource of documents, artefacts, paintings and other items available in the archive. The minister said the project is a part of the prime minister”s Digital India initiative to showcase information about the rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage of India both at home and abroad.

Karnataka: 3D Mapping of 844 State-Protected Monuments to Begin Soon

Claimed to be a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, the department will make the information available on its official website. “These state-protected monuments include palaces, forts, heritage buildings, inscriptions, archaeological sites, temples, mosques, and dargahs. Monuments located in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kalaburagi and Belagavi divisions will be included in this project,” an official said.

Scientists Find Evidence of Saraswati’s Existence

A new research — led by the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, in collaboration with IIT-Bombay — has reported “unequivocal evidence” that there existed a perennial river on the plains of northwestern India. The river, according to the researchers, flowed roughly along the course of the modern Ghaggar. Researchers say that this river was the Saraswati mentioned in the Rig Veda.

Statue of Unity Surpasses Daily Average Footfall at Statue of Liberty

In just over a year of its unveiling, the Statue of Unity has surpassed the footfall at the 133-year-old Statue of Liberty in the US, with an average of over 15,000 tourists visiting the monument in Gujarat daily. “With 74 per cent increase over the daily average of the first year, that is, November 1, 2018 to October 31, 2019, daily average of 15,036 is now registered in the first month of this second year.
