The additional four coaches include three AC Chair Car coaches and one Executive Class coach, which will increase the availability of reserved seats for passengers travelling between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The move is expected to benefit business travellers, students, daily commuters, tourists and other passengers who rely on the route for fast, comfortable and predictable inter-city movement.
The newly launched complex has been developed as a specialised hub for the production of high-speed rail components, particularly for India’s upcoming indigenous bullet train project. The facility is designed to manufacture advanced “B-28” train coaches, which will form the backbone of the country’s first domestically developed high-speed train.
The campus now prepares daily meals for over 500 people, including around 250 hostel students who are served twice a day, along with 15 staff families residing on the premises. Instead of relying on LPG cylinders, the institution uses two biogas plants with a combined capacity of 90 cubic metres per day. These plants convert cow dung, kitchen waste and agricultural residue into usable cooking gas.
For decades, the Khambatki Ghat section was known for its steep curves, accident-prone stretches, and traffic congestion. The newly constructed tunnel now offers a safer alternative route, significantly reducing travel risks and improving driving conditions for commuters.
The latest update from the Ministry of Railways says the corridor will use the Japanese J-Slab ballastless track system, based on Shinkansen technology, for the first time in India. Unlike conventional railway tracks that use loose ballast stones, this system uses a reinforced concrete track bed, cement asphalt mortar, pre-cast track slabs, rails and fasteners to create a highly stable track structure suitable for high-speed operations.
The scheme is designed to support Indian participation in key international telecom forums such as the International Telecommunication Union, 3GPP and oneM2M, giving domestic stakeholders financial assistance for attending global meetings, submitting technical contributions, taking up leadership roles in study groups and hosting international standardisation events in India.
The minister said the country’s wind energy potential at 150-metre hub height is estimated at nearly 1,164 GW, and reiterated the government’s target of reaching 100 GW by 2030 and 156 GW by 2036. He linked that expansion to India’s longer-term net-zero by 2070 objective.
