Indian Infrastructures and Capabilities
With the goal of reducing the cost of electricity for traction, Indian Railways has commenced the flow of additional 50 MW power (total 100 MW) from Bhartiya Rail Bijli Company Limited (BRBCL) in the State of Bihar with effect from 28 November 2019, which is expected to lead to an annual saving of Rs 110 Crores per annum on a recurring basis.
The 40-tonne stainless steel calandria, with a diameter of some 7.8 metres and 32mm-thick walls, was manufactured in Mumbai and handed over recently to the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPC).
The HAL and French company, Safran Helicopter Engines, had entered into a joint venture – Helicopter Engine MRO Private Limited – to set up this helicopter maintenance plant at Honda village in North Goa.
To transform the Railway stations into the hub of Digital inclusion, Indian Railways mandated RailTel, a Miniratna PSU under Ministry of Railways, to provide free high-speed WiFi at the railway stations.
Though the south runway began with limited operations, it will gradually scale up flight operations. The runway will initially have CAT I certification, and, as operations stabilise, will progressively manage CAT III B operations, enabling landing and takeoff in extremely low visibility conditions. The new runway will be coded RWY 09R/27L, while the existing runway will be renamed RWY 09L/27R (from RWY 09/27).
The proposed IIS will be established in PPP mode. These proposed IISs will have state-of-the-art skill centres conceptualized to bring in best-in-class infrastructure and facilities to meet the aspirations of students who enter the skill learning domain directly after class X/XII (like ITI & diploma courses) instead of the traditionally preferred pathway of higher education.
Gen VK Singh said increased industrial activities have supported the overall growth of the transport sector, adding that the Government’s policy of increasing private participation has yielded positive results, with India becoming the world’s second largest road network of 5.8 million km.
Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited chief operating officer Abhay Paranjape told Telangana Today, “Our goal is to be ready with the first F16 wing by October next year. We are going to make the wings in the existing facility. We are building the prototype now and once we build and prove it, we will go for bidding for orders. We will have a capacity to make 3-4 wings a month in the steady state. We have already completed the 3D modeling for the F16 wings.”
The core catcher or core melt localisation device (CMLD) will localise and cool the molten core material in case of an accident in the nuclear power reactor.
The objective is to establish strong air connectivity and to boost the tourism sector, the Ministry said in a Press communication, adding that under the UDAN 4.0 scheme MoCA is also providing additional VGF of around 25% extra to the airlines.
