HAL Revives Su-30MKI Production at Nashik, 12 New Fighters to Join IAF by 2029

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is reviving production of the Su-30MKI at its Nashik complex, bringing one of India’s most important fighter manufacturing lines back into active aircraft production several years after the original licensed-production programme was completed. Under the new programme, HAL will manufacture 12 additional Su-30MKI fighters for the Indian Air Force, with deliveries expected to be completed by 2029.

Japan to Send F-2 Fighters to India for First-Ever Deployment as IAF-JASDF Combat Cooperation Deepens

India and Japan are nevertheless far from strangers when it comes to fighter operations. Their first dedicated bilateral fighter exercise, Veer Guardian 2023, was conducted in Japan from January 16 to 26, 2023. The Indian Air Force sent four Su-30MKI fighters, supported by C-17 transport aircraft and an IL-78 aerial refueller, while Japan fielded four F-2s and four F-15 fighters. The exercise included complex air-combat missions and gave both air forces an opportunity to train against aircraft and tactical philosophies very different from their own.
