India, France Plan Satellite Surveillance of Ships

They will cover a wide belt around the globe and specifically focus on the Indian Ocean region where France, with its Reunion Islands, has a strategic interest. When in place, the satellite-based Automatic Identification System or AIS will detect, identify and track a range of vessels moving in the ocean region and guard against aggression, terrorism, piracy, smuggling, source of oil slicks and also be useful for rescues.

Coast Guards of India, US Take Part in Joint Exercise

From the Indian side, ICG Shaurya and ICG Abheek ships and Chetak helicopter took part in the exercise that focused on anti-piracy, search and rescue, and fire fighting operations, a Coast Guard official said. Coast Guard ships and aircraft of the two countries took part in the exercise around five nautical miles off the city coast in the Bay of Bengal.

Five IAF Officers Found Guilty by Court of Inquiry for Shooting Down Mi-17VF Chopper on 27 February

Sources said that during the probe, it had emerged that the officers handling air defence responsibilities at the Srinagar airbase mistook the chopper returning midway from a mission as an incoming missile towards the base. The officers have been found guilty of charges including negligence and not following correct procedures while shooting down the Mi-17 V5 chopper.

Defence Production Target Set At ₹ 90K Crore for 2019-20

The target set by the department for 2019-20 is nearly 12 per cent higher than the production achieved in the previous financial year. In the financial year 2018-19, the department had produced equipment worth Rs 80,502 crore. Exports had accounted for Rs 10,745 crore worth of equipment in the financial year 2018-19.

DRDO Hands Over Design of Mobile Metallic Ramp to Indian Army

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Tuesday handed over the design of Mobile Metallic Ramp (MMR) to the Indian Army at a ceremony held at DRDO Bhawan in the national capital. Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, G Satheesh Reddy handed over the design of MMR to Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Devraj Anbu.

India to Take Part in Massive War Game with Russia, China in Sept

This is the first time India will be taking part in the Tsentre exercise. Usually Russia conducts this exercise alone, but last year, it had invited China to an edition of this war exercise that saw a total of 3,00,000 troops from the two countries participating. A three-figure strong Indian military contingent is being readied for Tsentr-2019 (Center-2019) drills to be held from September 16-21, multiple military sources told.
