Visakhapatnam is packed with sophisticated ‘state of the art’ weapons and sensors such as Surface to Surface Missile and Surface to Air Missiles. The ship is fitted with a modern Surveillance Radar which provides target data to the gunnery weapon systems of the ship. The ship’s Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities are provided by the indigenously developed Rocket Launchers, Torpedo Launchers and ASW helicopters. The ship is equipped to fight under Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) warfare conditions.

If the acquisition is approved at the slated meeting led by the Defence Secretary, the decision will be further moved to the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) for final approval by the defence ministry, and then to the Cabinet Committee on Security for final approval before the contract is signed. According to ANI sources, India and the US have been discussing the deal for more than two years and it is now in the last stages of being approved by the government.

A joint airlift exercise, ‘Op Hercules’ was undertaken by the Indian Air Force and Indian Army on 15 November 2021. The aim of this high intensity airlift was to strengthen the logistics supply in the Northern sector and to augment winter stocking in the operational areas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over the first of the Light Combat Helicopters to the Indian Air Force in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi during the ‘Jhansi Jalsa’ event on November 19, Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar informed on Monday.
