Indian scientists have Developed a Carbon-Based Non-Toxic and Reusable Wrapper to Increase Shelf Life of Fruits

Indian scientists have developed a composite paper made of carbon (graphene oxide) loaded with preservatives that can be used as wrappers to help extend shelf life of fruits. Unlike the present preservative dipping technology, where the preservatives are adsorbed by the fruit, causing chronic toxicity to the consumers; here preservatives the wrapper releases the preservative only when needed. The wrapper can be reused, which is not possible with the present technology.

Foreign Nationals Are Now Eligible for Vaccination in India

In a landmark initiative to ensure safety from COVID-19, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken a decision to allow foreign nationals residing in India to get registered on CoWin portal to take COVID-19 vaccine. They can use their passport as identity document for the purpose of registration on CoWIN portal. Once they are registered on this portal, they will get a slot for vaccination.

GRSE Commences Production of Ferry Vessel for Guyana

The Kolkata-based shipbuilding company said that GRSE bagged the order for this vessel on competitive bidding, and the contract was signed with the Transport and Harbours Department of Govt. of Guyana. The 70 M long, 1700 tonnes vessel will be propelled by two caterpillar engines and will have a maximum speed of 15 knots.
