Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS) Visit To Sri Lanka

The 1st Training Squadron (comprising Indian Naval Ships Sujata, Magar, Shardul, Sudarshini, Tarangini and Coast Guard Ship Vikram) is on a four day visit to Sri Lanka from 24 – 28 Oct 21 as part of their Overseas Deployment for the 100th and 101st Integrated Officers Training Course. The deployment is aimed to broaden the horizons of young officers and officer-trainees by exposing them to the socio-political and maritime facets of different countries in the Indian Ocean Region. The deployment will also expose the trainees onboard towards the conduct of IN warships in various evolutions at sea, port familiarisation and above all, foster the bridges of friendship with foreign nations.

Route Survey of 760km Varanasi – Howrah Bullet Train Project Begins

The Government of India has planned a 760km new Bullet Train corridor to connect Varanasi with Howrah through a high speed bullet train service. A private agency appointed by Indian Railways has commenced route survey of the proposed high speed rail corridor in Giridih district of Jharkhand state to identify routes and villages that the project will affect.

Model to Accurately Assess Rainfall-Induced Damages in Road Networks

The approach, described in the journal Environmental Research Letters, uses satellite imageries, landslide and debris flow models, and flood prediction models to predict the geographical locations that have a high susceptibility of damages after heavy rainfall episodes. It also provides the occurrence time and magnitude of infrastructure disruptions as a consequence of landslides, debris flows, and floods, the researchers said. This hazard model can help authorities identify the ‘hotspots’ which should be reinforced and protected to solve highway-flooding issues and minimise the societal and economic disruptions, they said.

Bangladesh Navy Chief Leaves for India on State Visit

Bangladesh Navy Chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal left on a state visit to India at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Saturday.During the visit, Admiral Iqbal will meet Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh.

Madurai Hospital Uses Bioresorbable Stent for Angioplasty

Doctors at Apollo Speciality Hospital in Madurai said the man with high blood pressure was diagnosed with a single blockage and blood clot in his left anterior descending artery. Dr Vivek Bose, senior interventional cardiologist at the hospital, and his team planned to use an Indian-made naturally bioresorbable stent for the angioplasty instead of a conventional metal stent which will permanently be left in the body.
