India has placed 37 home-grown deep-tech startups and ventures before an influential international audience at the BRICS Bharat Innovates Exposition, which opened at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 11, 2026.
The two-day exposition, being held on September 11–12, is organised by the Union Ministry of Education in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs. It forms part of the programme surrounding the 18th BRICS Summit, which India is hosting in New Delhi on September 12–13 under its BRICS Chairship.
From 120 Ventures in France to 37 at BRICS
The 37 companies participating in New Delhi have been drawn from the original cohort of 120 Indian startups and ventures showcased at Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France, from June 14–16.
The Nice event was the first major international outing of the Bharat Innovates programme and brought together Indian deep-tech companies, research institutions, investors and global corporations. The New Delhi exposition now represents its second major international-facing showcase of 2026, this time placing selected Indian technologies directly within the BRICS economic and diplomatic ecosystem.
Bharat Innovates has been conceived as more than an exhibition. The Ministry of Education describes it as a global accelerator intended to connect innovations emerging from India’s higher-education and research ecosystem with corporations, investors, universities, research organisations, incubators and governments worldwide.
Indian Technology Meets BRICS Capital and Industry
A major feature of the New Delhi exposition is its proximity to the BRICS Business Forum on September 11. This gives participating Indian companies access to CEOs, investors, business leaders and industrial representatives from BRICS member countries.
The programme is intended to generate B2B engagements, technology partnerships, investment discussions, commercial linkages and international market access. Structured matchmaking is also being facilitated with industry organisations including FICCI, CII and ASSOCHAM.
This makes the event particularly important for deep-tech ventures, which often face a longer path from laboratory development to commercial scale than conventional digital startups. Access to industrial partners, patient capital, international customers and manufacturing networks can be critical for technologies in areas such as advanced computing, semiconductors, biotechnology, robotics, space systems, clean energy and advanced manufacturing.
Building on Bharat Innovates 2026
The selection of the 37 ventures also builds on the commercial momentum generated by the first Bharat Innovates exposition in France.
The Nice programme attracted more than 2,000 participants from 29 countries and generated over 1,350 B2B meetings. More than 50 collaboration agreements were reported across industry, academia, research and incubation, while participating ventures secured around US$254.5 million in funding commitments and advanced-stage investments.
The original 120-company cohort represented technologies across 13 major deep-tech fields, including advanced computing, semiconductors, next-generation communications, biotechnology, space technology, energy, healthcare and advanced manufacturing.
The BRICS edition therefore gives a smaller group of those ventures a second opportunity to convert technological capability into international commercial relationships.
Innovation Becomes Part of India’s BRICS Agenda
The exposition also fits directly into India’s theme for its 2026 BRICS Chairship: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
Research, innovation and startup ecosystems are among the priority areas being pursued through the BRICS Education Track. By positioning Indian deep-tech companies alongside summit-level diplomatic and business engagements, New Delhi is linking innovation policy with its wider economic diplomacy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and leaders attending the BRICS Summit are expected to visit the Bharat Innovates exposition. The official BRICS programme also provides for leaders of member countries to view the exhibition during the summit proceedings at Bharat Mandapam.
For the participating companies, that creates an unusual platform where deep technology, investment and diplomacy converge.
What began in Nice as an effort to present India’s innovation ecosystem to global investors has now moved to the BRICS stage in New Delhi. The presence of 37 selected ventures at Bharat Mandapam signals a broader ambition: to turn Indian deep-tech innovation into globally deployed technology, international partnerships and scalable businesses rather than allowing promising technologies to remain confined to laboratories and domestic pilot projects.
