India’s engineering exports recorded strong growth in June 2026, rising 20.74% year-on-year to $11.48 billion, compared with $9.51 billion in the same month of 2025. The sector emerged as one of the leading contributors to the expansion of India’s merchandise exports during the month.
The performance reflected sustained overseas demand for Indian machinery, transport equipment, metals, electrical products and other manufactured goods. Engineering exports remained above the $10-billion mark for the third consecutive month, underlining the sector’s resilience despite continuing pressure on shipping routes, freight rates, insurance costs and global supply chains.
During the April–June quarter of 2026–27, engineering exports were reported at around $34.14 billion, an increase of more than 18% from the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Engineering goods accounted for a substantial share of India’s overall merchandise exports, which reached $40.41 billion in June.
China emerged as one of the fastest-growing major destinations for Indian engineering goods, with shipments rising sharply during the month. The United States continued to remain the largest market, while exports to Germany and Oman also registered strong growth. The rise in shipments across several major destinations indicates broader demand for Indian engineering products rather than dependence on a single market.
According to industry data, exports to China increased by around 74% year-on-year to $361.47 million, while shipments to the United States were valued at approximately $1.95 billion. Engineering exports to Oman rose more than fourfold to nearly $259 million.
The improvement was also broad-based across product categories. Of the 34 engineering product groups monitored by EEPC India, 27 recorded year-on-year growth during June. This suggests that the increase was supported by multiple segments of the engineering industry, including machinery, automobiles, electrical equipment, metals and transport-related products.
The growth came despite disruptions in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, which have increased voyage times, war-risk insurance premiums and freight expenses. These pressures have raised costs for Indian exporters, particularly companies serving Europe, West Asia and parts of Africa.
EEPC India has emphasised the importance of continued government support, easier access to export credit, competitive logistics and stable trade-finance arrangements to preserve the sector’s momentum. Engineering exports are especially important because they support manufacturing, skilled employment, technology development and the integration of Indian companies into international supply chains.
India’s broader export performance also remained positive in June. Merchandise exports rose to $40.41 billion, while engineering goods were among the principal drivers of growth alongside gems and jewellery, chemicals, electronics and rice.
The latest figures reinforce the engineering sector’s position as one of the pillars of India’s export economy. Continued demand from the United States, China, Europe and West Asia could help sustain growth, although geopolitical tensions and higher logistics costs remain important risks for exporters.
