India has reiterated its commitment to support the welfare and development needs of the Afghan people during the fourth India-Afghanistan Joint Committee Meeting held in New Delhi on 9 July 2026.
The meeting reviewed cooperation across humanitarian assistance, development partnership, food security, healthcare, education, capacity building, sports, trade, visa matters and connectivity. It was co-chaired by M. Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and Shuaib Baryalai, Director General of the First Political Division in Afghanistan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.
India reaffirmed that its engagement with Afghanistan remains focused on practical support for ordinary people. Healthcare, food security, education and capacity building continue to be key pillars of this relationship. These sectors directly support Afghanistan’s recovery and strengthen the long-standing people-to-people connection between the two countries.
The Afghan side appreciated India’s sustained support across several areas. Both sides also agreed on the importance of regular consultations and decided to remain in close contact.
The meeting reflects India’s steady and people-centric approach toward Afghanistan. By focusing on humanitarian needs, development, education, health, trade and connectivity, India continues to maintain its role as a reliable partner for the Afghan people and a contributor to regional stability.
