The Unique Identification Authority of India has introduced a new facility allowing residents to add or update their email ID in Aadhaar directly through the Aadhaar App, removing the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre.
The service has been made available free of cost through the Aadhaar App from 1 July 2026 for a period of six months. The initiative is aimed at improving resident convenience and expanding access to Aadhaar services through secure digital platforms. It also reflects UIDAI’s continued focus on people-friendly digital governance under the broader vision of Digital India and Viksit Bharat.
The response to the new feature has been strong. Within the first two days of its launch, more than 2.5 lakh residents updated their email address through the Aadhaar App.
Linking an email ID with Aadhaar offers an important security advantage. Residents receive real-time email notifications whenever an Aadhaar authentication request is carried out. This improves transparency and helps Aadhaar number holders stay informed whenever their Aadhaar is used for verification or other purposes.
The new Aadhaar App has been designed to improve ease of living by allowing residents to access multiple Aadhaar services directly from their smartphones. Apart from email updates, the app also supports mobile number updates and address updates.
So far, more than 40 lakh people have updated their mobile numbers through the Aadhaar App, while around 10 lakh residents have used the platform to update their address. These numbers indicate growing public acceptance of app-based Aadhaar services and the convenience of digital self-service options.
UIDAI has encouraged residents to make use of the free email update facility and keep their Aadhaar details current. Residents can access the feature by downloading the latest version of the Aadhaar App or updating the existing app on their smartphones.
The Aadhaar App is available on both Android and Apple iOS platforms.
