Bharat Innovates 2026: India Takes Its Deep-Tech Story to France

Organised by the Government of India as an initiative of the Union Ministry of Education, Bharat Innovates 2026 has been designed as a high-impact platform for connecting Indian innovators with global stakeholders. The event gives Indian start-ups, research institutions and higher education institutions a chance to showcase technologies that can serve global markets and solve real-world problems.

India’s innovation story received a major international platform as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron jointly inaugurated the maiden edition of Bharat Innovates 2026 at the Palais des Expositions de Nice in France. The event marks a new step in the India-France technology partnership and places Indian deep-tech talent before global investors, institutions, industries and policy leaders.

Prime Minister Modi used the occasion to present India as a country that innovates with scale, speed and purpose. His message was clear: India is building technology for a sustainable future and for the wider world. Bharat Innovates is therefore more than an exhibition. It is an invitation for global partners to co-create the next chapter of innovation with India.

President Emmanuel Macron also highlighted the strength of India-France ties in technology, science and industry. The fact that Nice is hosting the first Bharat Innovates event outside India shows the trust between the two countries and the growing importance of their innovation partnership. France brings strong industrial, scientific and research capabilities, while India brings scale, talent, entrepreneurship and a fast-growing deep-tech ecosystem.

The Bharat Innovates Innovation Pavilion became the centrepiece of the event. Prime Minister Modi and President Macron walked through the pavilion, which showcased 120 cutting-edge technologies and breakthrough innovations developed by Indian innovators and premier Indian higher education institutions. These technologies covered artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology, healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing, mobility and space technologies.

The range of sectors shows the changing nature of India’s innovation economy. Indian technology is moving from software services into deeper areas of strategic importance. Artificial intelligence, chips, biotech, clean energy, space systems, defence technologies and advanced manufacturing are now becoming central to India’s growth story. Bharat Innovates 2026 presents this transition to the world in a structured and confident way.

The programme runs from 14 to 16 June 2026 and includes 11 high-level panel discussions, sector-focused masterclasses, curated business-to-business matchmaking sessions, investor pitch events involving more than 50 start-ups and networking meetings with global investors, universities, corporates, incubators and policymakers. This format gives the event a practical character. It is built around partnerships, funding, market access and long-term collaboration.

For Indian start-ups, the event can open new routes into Europe and other global markets. For investors, it offers a direct view of India’s emerging deep-tech capabilities. For universities and research institutions, it creates a bridge between laboratories, industry and international collaboration. For policymakers, it strengthens the idea that innovation diplomacy is now a major part of India’s global engagement.

The presence of senior Indian leaders also underlined the strategic importance of the event. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal welcomed the dignitaries. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Principal Scientific Adviser Dr. Ajay Kumar Sood also attended the inaugural programme. Their presence showed that Bharat Innovates connects education, diplomacy, commerce, science, security and industry in one platform.

The event also fits into the wider India-France partnership. Both countries already cooperate in defence, space, civil nuclear energy, climate action and high technology. Bharat Innovates adds a strong start-up and research dimension to this relationship. It gives the partnership a future-facing character built on talent, science, entrepreneurship and advanced technology.

The importance of such a platform is clear in the present global environment. Countries are looking for trusted technology partners, resilient supply chains and innovation ecosystems that can support future industries. India’s deep-tech ecosystem is growing at a time when the world is searching for scale, affordability and reliability. France, with its advanced industrial and scientific base, is a natural partner in this journey.

Bharat Innovates 2026 also strengthens India’s integration into global innovation networks. Indian higher education institutions are no longer limited to teaching and research alone. They are becoming engines of innovation, start-up creation, technology development and industry collaboration. By showcasing technologies from premier Indian institutions, the event projects India’s universities as contributors to global technology development.

The maiden edition of Bharat Innovates therefore carries a larger message. India is presenting itself as a serious innovation power with the ability to build, scale and share technology. The India-France partnership is giving this story an international stage. With deep-tech, start-ups, research institutions and global investors coming together in Nice, Bharat Innovates 2026 marks a confident step in India’s journey from technology adoption to technology leadership.
