The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that the road transport ministry had finished 1,41,190 kilometres of national highways as of March 31 this year, out of a target of 2 lakh kilometres for 2024-25. Similarly, the petroleum ministry has finished 20,000 kilometres of a 34,500-kilometer gas pipeline, exceeding its aim for the same period, and the power ministry has also exceeded its target for laying a 4,54,200-kilometer transmission network by the end of March 2022.
The Department of Telecommunications has built a network of 33,00,997 kilometres of OFC (Optical Fibre Cable) as of March 31, 2022, compared to a target of 50,00,000 kilometres for 2024-25. It also stated that an integrated Multimodal Network Planning Group (NPG) has been established with representation from various connectivity infrastructure ministries/departments, including their network planning division heads, for unified planning and integration of proposals, as well as assisting the Empowered Group of Secretaries.
During a review meeting on PM GatiShakti on April 13, the progress of such programmes was discussed by ministry. The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP) is an integrated plan that depicts all existing and prospective development initiatives from various ministries/departments in order to achieve greater synergy.
