Indian engineering company Kabra Extrusiontechnik Limited has announced the successful execution and commissioning of a 10 MW/20 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The project, undertaken by the company’s New Energy division, GEON, marks another development in its expansion into utility-scale electricity storage and renewable energy infrastructure.
In a regulatory disclosure dated 8 October 2026, the company stated that the project involved engineering, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning on a turnkey Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis. The installation was developed in accordance with Rajasthan’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024.
The announcement follows an earlier disclosure on 9 September 2026 concerning a battery storage facility of identical capacity at Phalodi, Rajasthan, under the requirements of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPNL). The two announcements identify different locations, but the available disclosures do not conclusively establish whether they refer to separate installations. Consequently, their capacities should not yet be added together.
GEON Completes 10 MW/20 MWh Battery Storage Installation
The latest announcement highlights GEON’s ability to execute utility-scale energy storage projects through a comprehensive engineering and construction model.
Under the EPC arrangement, the company undertook the design and engineering work, equipment procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the battery storage facility. Such projects require the integration of battery modules, power conversion equipment, electrical protection systems, thermal management infrastructure and automated controls.
The completed installation has a rated power capacity of 10 MW and an energy storage capacity of 20 MWh. This configuration provides a nominal discharge duration of two hours at full rated output, before accounting for operating restrictions and efficiency losses.
The system is intended to support energy management, grid stability and the integration of renewable electricity. Its operational capabilities will depend on the final technical configuration and requirements of the connected electricity network.
How the Battery Storage System Supports Rajasthan’s Electricity Grid
Rajasthan is one of India’s major renewable energy producing states, with extensive solar and wind power infrastructure. Large-scale renewable generation creates opportunities to produce electricity without conventional fuel consumption, but it also introduces variations in supply throughout the day.
Solar installations generate electricity during daylight hours, while output declines towards sunset. Wind power generation can fluctuate according to changing weather conditions. Battery storage systems help manage these variations by absorbing electricity when generation is abundant and supplying it during periods of higher demand or reduced renewable output.
A 10 MW/20 MWh installation can provide up to 10 MW of electrical power within its operating limits. Its 20 MWh capacity represents the nominal quantity of energy available for storage, making it suitable for applications requiring sustained discharge over a limited period.
Grid-connected batteries can also respond rapidly to changes in electricity demand and generation. Depending on their design, they may support frequency regulation, voltage management and other grid services.
GEON’s installation contributes to this developing infrastructure by providing an additional energy storage resource capable of supporting the operation of renewable electricity networks.
GEON Expands Kabra Extrusiontechnik’s New Energy Business
Kabra Extrusiontechnik has traditionally operated in industrial machinery manufacturing, particularly plastic extrusion equipment. Its diversification into battery technology has created a second industrial growth area involving electric mobility and stationary energy storage.
The company previously operated its battery business under the Battrixx brand before introducing GEON as its new energy identity.
GEON focuses on advanced battery solutions, including battery packs for electric vehicles and stationary storage applications. The division’s capabilities extend across battery engineering, system integration and related technologies.
The commissioning of a utility-scale storage installation demonstrates the company’s participation in infrastructure projects beyond supplying individual battery packs or components.
In such projects, the successful integration of electrical equipment and control systems is essential. Battery storage facilities must operate safely within prescribed temperature, voltage and current limits while maintaining compatibility with grid requirements.
GEON’s ability to deliver the announced project on a turnkey basis represents an expansion of its engineering activities into integrated energy infrastructure.
Earlier 20 MWh Commissioning at Phalodi
On 9 September 2026, Kabra Extrusiontechnik formally informed BSE and NSE that it had commissioned a 10 MW/20 MWh Battery Energy Storage System at Phalodi in Rajasthan.
The company’s signed disclosure identified Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited as the organisation whose project requirements governed the installation. It stated that the system had completed the necessary design, execution, testing and commissioning procedures.
The announcement described the installation as supporting efficient energy management, grid stability and renewable energy integration.
The subsequent disclosure dated 8 October identifies Jaisalmer and refers to execution under Rajasthan’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024. Although the locations differ, both announcements concern systems with identical power and energy ratings.
The project relationship remains important when assessing the company’s installed storage portfolio. Until separate project identities are established, the announcements confirm commissioning activity but do not independently substantiate 40 MWh of newly commissioned capacity.
Understanding the Importance of Turnkey Battery Storage Engineering
Building a grid-scale battery storage facility involves considerably more than installing rechargeable battery modules.
Engineers must design the electrical architecture, determine the appropriate battery configuration and select power conversion equipment capable of exchanging electricity with the grid. The installation also requires protection systems, communication networks and software for monitoring equipment performance.
Battery management systems supervise operating conditions, including cell voltage, temperature and state of charge. Thermal management equipment helps maintain suitable operating temperatures, while safety systems detect and respond to abnormal conditions.
Power conversion systems transform direct current from the batteries into alternating current compatible with the electricity network. During charging, these systems manage the reverse conversion process.
The EPC contractor must integrate these technologies and demonstrate that the completed installation meets its technical specifications. Testing and commissioning are therefore essential stages before a battery facility enters operational service.
Indian companies developing integrated engineering capabilities in this sector can participate in an expanding market for electricity storage infrastructure.
Rajasthan’s Clean Energy Policy Supports Storage Development
Rajasthan’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024, provides a framework for expanding renewable energy infrastructure and supporting technologies across the state.
Battery storage has become increasingly relevant because Rajasthan’s large renewable generation potential must be integrated with the broader electricity transmission and distribution system.
Grid-scale storage can help manage fluctuations in renewable output and provide electricity during selected peak demand periods. It can also reduce renewable energy curtailment when generation exceeds the immediate capacity of the grid to absorb electricity.
The development of these facilities supports the wider transition towards a more flexible electricity system.
However, battery storage does not generate new energy independently. Its value comes from shifting electricity across time and providing operational services that help balance supply and demand.
Indian Battery Storage Manufacturing Gains Industrial Momentum
The expansion of battery storage infrastructure is creating opportunities for manufacturers of battery packs, power electronics, electrical equipment and energy management systems.
India’s domestic manufacturing ecosystem includes companies developing lithium-ion battery modules, battery management systems, inverters, transformers and specialised electrical protection equipment.
An increase in utility-scale storage projects can encourage greater investment in engineering expertise, quality-control systems and local supply chains.
For companies such as Kabra Extrusiontechnik, the market extends beyond electric vehicle batteries into stationary applications serving electricity utilities, renewable energy developers, commercial establishments and industrial consumers.
These applications have different operating requirements. Electric vehicle batteries generally prioritise characteristics such as energy density, weight and mobility, while stationary storage systems place greater emphasis on operating life, safety, reliability and lifecycle economics.
Developing capabilities across these applications allows battery technology companies to address a wider range of energy requirements.
GEON Strengthens Its Position in Utility-Scale Energy Storage
Kabra Extrusiontechnik’s October 2026 announcement represents another milestone in the development of its New Energy division.
The completed 10 MW/20 MWh installation demonstrates capabilities covering project engineering, equipment integration and commissioning. These activities are particularly relevant as Indian electricity utilities and renewable energy developers expand investments in battery storage systems.
The company’s September and October disclosures also highlight its increasing involvement in Rajasthan’s energy storage sector, although confirmation of the relationship between the two installations remains necessary for accurately assessing cumulative capacity.
As India continues to expand renewable energy generation, demand for reliable electricity storage infrastructure will create additional opportunities for domestic technology and engineering companies.
GEON’s 20 MWh battery storage commissioning strengthens Kabra Extrusiontechnik’s presence in India’s emerging grid-scale storage industry and contributes to the development of infrastructure supporting a more flexible, reliable and renewable-energy-intensive electricity system.
