Hyderabad-based defence technology company Indrajaal is advancing its indigenous AI-powered counter-drone architecture as India faces a rapidly growing threat from low-cost unmanned aircraft targeting borders, military installations and critical infrastructure.
In an official update published on August 28, 2026, the company detailed how its Made-in-India system differs from conventional anti-drone installations. Rather than protecting individual sites through isolated point-defence equipment, Indrajaal has developed what it describes as a distributed “defence dome” capable of combining sensors, artificial intelligence and multiple countermeasures across a much wider protected area.
At the centre of the architecture is SkyOS, Indrajaal’s AI-driven autonomy and air-command platform. SkyOS combines information from acoustic sensors, radio-frequency systems, electro-optical cameras and thermal sensors to create a common picture of low-altitude airspace. The platform can classify an incoming drone, predict its trajectory and select an appropriate response within seconds.
Indrajaal says this multi-sensor approach is particularly important against newer autonomous drones that may fly pre-programmed routes without continuously transmitting radio signals. Such aircraft can be difficult for counter-drone systems that rely primarily on detecting communication links between a drone and its operator.
The response architecture is also layered. Depending on the threat, the system can employ electronic countermeasures to disrupt communication or navigation signals, attempt a cyber takeover of the aircraft, or use autonomous interceptor drones when non-kinetic measures are insufficient. SkyOS is designed to coordinate these different defensive layers rather than requiring each system to operate independently.
The company is positioning the technology for protection of military bases, ports, airports, energy infrastructure, strategic installations, public venues and border areas. Indrajaal says a distributed architecture allows multiple threats to be tracked and engaged simultaneously, an increasingly important capability as coordinated drone swarms become more practical.
Mobility has also become part of the architecture through the Indrajaal Ranger, launched on November 26, 2025. The company describes Ranger as India’s first anti-drone patrol vehicle capable of detecting, tracking and countering drones while moving. This allows counter-UAS coverage to extend along border roads, canal networks, agricultural areas and other locations where permanent installations may leave gaps.
Indrajaal cited the continuing drone threat along India’s western frontier as one reason for developing a broader approach. According to figures referenced by the company from government data, 791 unauthorised drones were sighted along the western borders during 2025, highlighting the increasing use of unmanned aircraft for activities ranging from surveillance to the trafficking of narcotics and weapons.
The indigenous nature of the platform is another major part of Indrajaal’s strategy. The company argues that domestic control over software, threat libraries, operational data and system upgrades allows lessons from field deployments to be incorporated faster while keeping sensitive detection and engagement information within India.
As inexpensive drones become more autonomous and capable of operating in coordinated groups, counter-UAS defence is moving beyond individual jammers and radars toward integrated low-altitude air-defence networks. Indrajaal’s approach seeks to address that transition by combining distributed sensing, artificial intelligence and multiple interception technologies within a single Indian-developed command architecture.
