India is earning a name in terms of new research across the world. Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have mixed clay and limestone to create concrete that can replace cement. Researchers say that there is a connection between microstructural development and durability of new concrete, which can prove to be far better than normal cement for the construction industry and is also very favourable for the environment. Explain that concrete is the most used construction material in the world. Seven cubic kilometres of concrete are constructed every year.
Researchers said, “Traditional concrete is made by mixing cement, sand, small pieces of stones and water.” It hardens after a few hours of preparation due to a chemical reaction. He said that the cement that comes to us at present, makes the chemical and mineral additives with unique properties, due to which it becomes durable.
Further in his address, Professor Manu of the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras said, ‘There is a lot of research going on around the world to develop efficient binders of alternative concrete, which can help produce more durable concrete. The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has also emphasized the need to prepare alternatives for the cement to disintegrate the cement industry. Because it causes great harm to the environment.
