India and Tunisia held the 6th round of Foreign Office Consultations in Tunis on March 27, with both sides reviewing the full range of bilateral relations and exploring ways to deepen cooperation across several key sectors. The consultations were co-chaired by Secretary (South) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Dr. Neena Malhotra, and Tunisia’s Secretary of State, Mohamed Ben Ayed.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions covered political engagement, high-level exchanges, trade and economic cooperation, capacity building, cultural ties, and broader people-to-people relations. The meeting reflected a shared effort by both countries to build stronger institutional engagement and widen the scope of partnership in areas of mutual interest.
Ahead of the consultations, Dr. Neena Malhotra also called on Tunisia’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti. During that interaction, the Tunisian side underlined the importance of expanding academic partnerships and boosting collaboration in science and technology, along with emerging sectors such as new and renewable energy.
The consultations reaffirmed the commitment of India and Tunisia to further strengthen bilateral ties at a time when both countries are looking to enhance cooperation beyond traditional diplomacy. With growing emphasis on education, technology, energy, and economic engagement, the latest round of talks in Tunis signals a broader push to translate diplomatic goodwill into more substantive and contemporary cooperation.
