New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has further enhanced the security of its airbases by inducting exceptionally sturdy trucks which can withstand any gun or grenade attack. The vehicles were on full show outside an airbase on Tuesday.
The Light Bullet Proof Vehicles weigh 6 tonnes each and have the ability to bear any type of bullet and grenade attacks. They will prove instrumental in countering terrorist attacks in sensitive regions.
According to reports, the vehicles have the capacity to carry six Garud commandos or Quick Reaction Team members.
The induction of the new vehicles has come ahead of the proposed review of the security challenges by top commanders of the Air Force. They are likely to review the security issues across the country, including the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
The bi-annual commanders’ conference will be inaugurated by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday.
Officials said the situation in eastern Ladakh, the site of the Sino-India border standoff, will be discussed at the conference besides the IAF’s overall capabilities to deal with any situation along the LAC.
The defence ministry said the conference is aimed at addressing the issues of IAF’s operational capabilities in the times to come.
