Families of security personnel from all the three services killed in action can now retain their government accommodation for a year.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the proposal to extend the period of retention of government accommodation for families of battle casualties from all the three services to one year from the existing three months, a statement from the Ministry of Defence said.
In view of the requirements and demands of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence reviewed the existing provisions and recommended the extension of the period to boost the morale of the Service personnel, the defence ministry said on Tuesday.
The government’s decision will not just boost the morale of the troops and their families but also came as a relief as shifting homes after losing a breadwinner can be extremely difficult, officials said.
At present, the family of an Armed Forces personnel killed in action against enemy forces or whilst enemy air attacks are permitted retention of government accommodation for three months and it has now been extended to one year, the Ministry of Defence said
