Indian Railways’ manufacturing unit for Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) received the unique distinction of manufacturing most locomotives in a year. CLW got the recognition from the Limca Book of Records and it was published by the same at their Delhi office.

The prepaid meters are expected to help to improve billing and collection, which are the most basic problems facing the country’s ailing distribution companies, known as discoms. These utilities, mostly controlled by their state governments, lose money because of poor billing and theft of power, which often leads to them delaying payments to generators and depriving their customers of reliable supplies.

State-owned Energy Efficient Services Ltd (EESL) has forayed into solar power generation and intends to set up 1,500 MW of decentralised solar power plants across the country by the end of 2020-21, its managing director, Mr Saurabh Kumar said.

He said that the grid connectivity would ensure better capacity utilization by complementing member country’s demand and supply situation. He said, consumers will also benefit as the price of electricity will come down and they will get uninterrupted power supply.

Gas pipelines are planned to take the fuel to the east and northeast regions as well as to consumers in the south as part of the government push to raise the share of natural gas in India’s energy basket to 15 per cent by 2030 from the current 6.2 per cent, he said.

The release said “It connects to over 500 cargo destinations across 175 countries through 60 airlines. The export cold zone is equipped with 12 truck docks with dock- levellers, spacious acceptance and examination area, automated workstations, X-Ray machines, unit load device (ULD) storage, ballmat system for ULD transfer and cold rooms. Spread over an operational area of 6,000 square metres, the facility is equipped with 10 ULD build-up workstations and as many as172 ULD storage positions”.

The eastern dedicated freight corridor is approximately 1,800 km-long, running from Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni near Kolkata, passing through Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. The corridor is targeted to be completed by December 2021.
