The Central Railway may soon adopt a modern technology called light detection and ranging (LIDAR) technology in order to detect track fractures and faults at the click of a button.
Alstom will equip Mumbai Metro lines and Pune Metro lines with the communications-based train control (CBTC) technology.

“The number of Accidents Per Million Train Kilometres came down from a high figure of 2.20 in 1981-82 to an all-time low figure of 0.06 in 2018-19. This shows that the Indian Railways is poised towards zero-accident mode,” a senior official said.
“What we’re talking about is a complete ecosystem of capability – it’s building up supply chain, it’s building up engineering capacity, technical mechanical capacity. It is bringing the build, not the kit, to India,” Marc Allen, president of Boeing International and a member of the Boeing Executive Council, told PTI.
The cable suspension bridge was built using innovative engineering methods. It was constructed by the combat engineers (Sahas aur Yogyata Regiment) of the Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army in a record time of 40 days, ferrying almost 500 tons of equipment and construction material.
Making a new record, Piyush Goyal led-Indian Railways manufactured a total of 6037 coaches this financial year against the production of 4,470 coaches (previous record) last year. The growth in coach production this year is 35 per cent more than the last financial year.
