The Scorpene submarines are extremely potent platforms, they have advanced stealth features and are also equipped with both long range guided torpedoes as well as anti-ship missiles. The defence minister of Maldives Mariya Ahmed Didi arrived in Kochi on a 6-day official visit to Kochi and Kannur. The defence minister, who reached the Cochin International Airport Limited (Cial) in an IndiGo flight around 11:30 am on Tuesday, was received by Rear Admiral TVN Prasanna, chief staff officer (training), Southern Naval Command (SNC) and his wife. The visit is part of improving the bilateral defence ties between Maldives and India.

Indian Naval Ship (INS) Khanjar, an indigenously built Missile Corvette along with Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft is undertaking coordinated patrol (CORPAT) with Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin, (376), a Kapitan Patimura-Class Corvette, from 23 to 24 Nov 21. The 37th edition of CORPAT between India and Indonesia will also witness participation of Maritime Patrol Aircraft from both Nations. The exercise, is being conducted as a ‘non-contact, “at sea only” exercise in view of COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the mutual trust, synergy and cooperation between the two friendly Navies.
India and the United States held the 12th Ministerial-level meeting of the India-United States Trade Policy Forum (TPF) in New Delhi on November 23, 2021 with a view to advancing the goal, to “develop an ambitious, shared vision for the future of the trade relationship”, as announced by PM Mr. Modi and President Mr. Biden at their September 24, 2021 meeting.
Under the agreement, GEAE Technology USA has licensed Triveni to locally manufacture the LM2500 gas turbine’s base frame, acoustic enclosure, and lubricating oil skid and supply other source-controlled accessories that go into the LM 2500 gas turbine enclosure assembly. The LM2500 is the chosen propulsion gas turbine by the Indian Navy for many of its surface combatant vessels. The LM2500 gas turbine, with power ranging from 25 MW to 35 MW, are best in class naval propulsion gas turbines and are in service with over 40 navies globally.
Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), on Monday said it recently signed a contract with Airbus Defence and Space for manufacture and supply of radar warning receiver and missile approach warning system for the C295 aircraft.
The Indian Coast Guard vessels, ICGS Vajra and ICGS Apoorva, and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard’s SLCGS Suraksha are in the Maldives for the exercise. This year marks 30 years since the first edition of the exercise. The trilateral exercise aims to strengthen friendship, enhance mutual operational capabilities, exercise interoperability and build cooperation between the coast guards of the Maldives, India and Sri Lanka, officials said.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh visited the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on November 22, 2021 on the occasion of Armed Forces Day of Bangladesh, which is celebrated on 21st November every year. The event was organised by the Bangladesh High Commission. High Commissioner of Bangladesh Mr Muhammad Imran, Ambassadors and Heads of Mission, Officers from Armed Forces of Bangladesh and other friendly nations and war veterans were among those present.
As of now, the development cost of the 25-tonne AMCA is estimated to be around Rs 15,000 crore, with the first prototype’s “rollout” by 2025-26 and production of the Mark-1 jets slated to begin in 2030-31 under the “aggressive timelines” set by DRDO and its Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA). A more realistic timeframe for the AMCA induction to kick-off, however, would be around 2035.
