IAF Test Fires Russian Missile; Endurance Test of Banshee Drone Conducted

The missile fired from frontline combat aircraft Sukhoi-30 MKI destroyed a target drone off Odisha coast. Defence sources said the short-range air-to-air missile was fired from the fighter aircraft as part of a user trial. The exercise was aimed at gauging the killing efficiency of the weapon system. The missile successfully intercepted the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Banshee over Bay of Bengal.

DRDO Pins Hopes on Target Drone Abhyas

Buoyed by successful text-book-launch of Abhyas last month from ITR Chandipur, the DRDO scientists are now readying the flight for another trial in the presence of Service representatives.
Unlike DRDO’s extravagant size of project teams, Abhyas had only a small and young team. The idea took birth in 2013, when the Services wanted an expendable self-propelled aerial target.DRDO scientists are excited about the recent trials but they have a long way to go before the Services accept it and give the go-ahead for the mass production.

India’s Defence Exports More than Double

The increase in defence exports — to Rs 10,745 crore in 2018-19 from Rs 4,682 crore in 2017-18 — is expected to move up exponentially, with the Rajnath Singh-led defence ministry going ahead with a new general export licence plan. It will enable Indian companies to export certain equipment to identified nations.
