Medical officer Captain Kundu accompanied her team on a crucial patrol in inhospitable and treacherous terrain to provide medical cover to her colleagues deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Captain Kundu’s feat is a true example of breaking boundaries, where women make up just 3.80 per cent of the Indian Army’s workforce.

Speculations are rife about the role of Pakistan’s ISI or the Army for providing such ammunition to the terrorists given the fact that it’s hard for them to get access to sophisticated weaponry. On India sending peacekeepers to Africa, according to Africa expert Prof Ajay Dubey, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, “India is an emerging global power and it has been discharging its global responsibilities in peace keeping and conflict management as one of the largest contributors to peace keeping operations around the world including in Africa.”

During this dialogue, both parties shared their threat analysis and presented the latest developments in their respective cyber policies and steps taken for protection of critical national infrastructure. The Navy is also conducting aerial surveillance with its P-8I long-range patrol aircraft in the area. “Moreover, the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region, which was launched by the Navy in December 2018, with its central hub at Gurugram, is also keeping a close watch on the movement of ships in the Gulf region,” added Captain Sharma.

Called the Optical Landing System (OLS), it has been developed by the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) here and is undergoing shore-based trials at a Naval airbase.

The Navy, which has more than 130 ships and 10 submarines, has recently placed an order to initiate the acquisition of a rugged portable tele-medicine system for healthcare management on its warships and submarines.
