The last remaining squadron of upgraded MiG 27s will fly for one last time at an official ceremony on December 27. The fighter jets will make their last flight from Jodhpur Air Base in Rajasthan. Earlier in 2017, two squadrons of MiG 27 jets were decommissioned at the Hashimara Air Base in Bengal in 2017.

A key factor in the exemption is that it has been provided for a select number of defence items and for a limited period of five years, during which it is estimated that domestic production will not be available. This would safeguard interests of the Indian industry and allow it to provide alternatives after the fiveyear window, said the person.

Lt. Gen. Ashwani Kumar, the adjutant general in the Indian Army, said on Wednesday that the training will be conducted at the Corps of Military Police Centre in Bengaluru and the trained personnel are expected to be posted in the field by the end of 2021.

A fuel cell-based AIP, like the one developed by DRDO, is known to deliver better performance compared to other technologies. According to the Defence Ministry press release, the AIP system enhances the submerged endurance of diesel-electric submarines several times, thus having a multiplier effect on its lethality.

“Rajnath Singh and the Uzbekistan Defence Minister Major General Kurbanov Bakhodir Nizamovich will witness a curtain raiser event of the joint exercise of the two armies. This is the first-ever joint exercise that will be undertaken by the armies of India and Uzbekistan. Cochin Shipyard Limited has signed the Phase-III contract for Construction of the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier on October 31, 2019. The Phase-III contract covers the operational and harbour acceptance trials of various equipment and systems installed onboard and also the Sea Trials of the Carrier. The contract also covers some activities which are to be undertaken post delivery of the vessel including support during weapon & aviation trials.

Senior officials told IANS on Wednesday, the survey was ordered in accordance with a direction issued by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to hand over all military farms to the Army. The survey is being undertaken across all 39 military farms, jointly with the Directorate General of Defence Estates.
