Capital procurement of defence equipment is undertaken from various domestic as well as foreign vendors as per extant Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) based on threat perception, operational challenges and technological change and to keep the Armed Forces in a state of readiness to meet the entire spectrum of Security Challenges.

A total of 14 MoUs were exchanged between the Russian manufacturers and the Indian companies at the 5th round of India-Russia Military Industrial Conference (IRMIC) that took place on Thursday at DefExpo, a government press release said.

Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Thursday said that the Sharang artillery gun would be inducted into the Army on Friday. “The Sharang artillery gun would be inducted into the Indian Army tomorrow. 155 mm Sharang is an upgraded version of the 130 mm M-46 field guns,” the Army Chief told ANI.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, in a written reply to a question regarding martyrdom of jawans after abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, in Rajya Sabha today, said that incidents of martyrdom of security force personnel have come down by 73% in Jammu and Kashmir Article 370, 35A and other constitutional ambiguities were effectively removed.

In addition to 40 Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas aircraft [20 in Initial Operation Clearance (IOC) and 20 in Final Operation Clearance (FOC) version with 16 fighters & 4 trainers in each], Government has planned to manufacture improved 83 LCA Mk-1A aircraft with enhanced capabilities for Indian Air Force (IAF).

The leading aeronautical firm is in line to bag a contract to manufacture 83 of the LCA Mk 1A fighters — to be equipped with advanced radars, sensors and indigenous weaponry — and is doubling its annual production capacity to meet the requirement.
