Transmitted from animals to human, Rabies kills an estimated 20,000 Indians annually. In a development that promises to help in better handling of the dreaded disease, a team of scientists from three institutes – DBT-Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai Veterinary College, and Haffkine Institute, Mumbai, has found out how the disease-causing virus affects the brain of the host at the molecular level.

India’s First COVID-19 Vaccine Candidate can Offer Protection Against New Strain

Bharat Biotech’s experimental COVID-19 vaccine candidate Covaxin can offer protection against new strain of coronavirus found in the United Kingdom, chairman and managing director Krishna Ella said on Tuesday. Developed by the Hyderabad based drugmaker in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology, the vaccine is in the phase III clinical trial in the country.

India’s First Pollinator Park Inaugurated in Haldwani

Sprawling across four acres, India’s first pollinators park was inaugurated on Tuesday at Haldwani in Nainital district of Uttarakhand.
The park was inaugurated by Peter Smetacek, a butterfly expert and it has around 50 different pollinator species, which include various species of butterflies, honeybees, birds and other insects.

‘TiHAN-IIT Hyderabad’- India’s First Test bed for Autonomous Navigation Systems

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has sanctioned Rs. 135 crores to IIT Hyderabad under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) to set up a Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation and Data Acquisition Systems (UAVs, RoVs, etc.). The Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation Systems for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Remotely Operated Vehicles at IIT Hyderabad, known as ‘TiHAN Foundation’ has been incorporated as a Section-8 company by the institute in June 2020.
